PARSONS, Elaine Frantz. (Johns Hopkins University), Assistant Professor of History. A specialist in 19th century American history, Dr. Parsons joined the department in 2005 after teaching for several years at other universities. Here at Duquesne, she teaches the core course, “Shaping of the Modern World,” the U.S. history survey, and upper level classes on “American Women in History,” “Reform in Modern America,” and American religious history. Her book, Manhood Lost: Drunken Men and Redeeming Women in the Nineteenth Century United States reflects her interest in the intersection between gender, reform and politics, insights she brings to the classroom.
