VÁRDY, Steven Béla (Indiana University), Professor of History and Distinguished Professor, McAnulty College and Graduate School. Dr. Várdy is a specialist in the history of Russia, Eastern Europe, the Habsburg Empire, and the Ottoman Empire, as well as the history of immigration. He brings to the classroom an encyclopedic knowledge of all these subjects, gained from his distinguished career as oneof the University’s most prolific scholars. Indeed, in 1984, Professor Várdy received Duquesne University's Presidential Award for Excellence in Scholarship. Yet, for all his deep knowledge, his students report that his classes are both interesting and enjoyable.
