Dear Prospective Student:
Thank you for your interest
in the McAnulty College and Graduate School of
Liberal Arts. I welcome the opportunity to describe
the unique advantages of graduate study in the
liberal arts at Duquesne University.
You may be wondering whether
you should make the commitment to graduate study
and if Duquesne is the right school for you. While
you may have many reasons for undertaking graduate
work, probably the most important among them is
a desire to deepen your understanding of a particular
body of knowledge or discipline. You may also
anticipate that developing some mastery in a particular
field of study is the first step you need to take
to prepare for your chosen career or profession.
Whether you see yourself as
a future college or university teacher or as a
practitioner in any number of professional fields,
as a student in the McAnulty Graduate School you
will be assisted and guided by outstanding scholar-teachers.
Our faculty are dedicated to teaching, and their
teaching is enhanced and nourished by their nationally
and internationally acclaimed scholarship and
expertise. They bring their learning and professional
experience to the classroom and devote themselves
to the education of tomorrow's leaders, in the
academy and the professions.
We live in a time when ethical
concerns are paramount. As a student in the McAnulty
Graduate School you will find that moral, ethical,
and spiritual values are integral to all of our
educational programs. Our mission emanates from
Duquesne University's mission: education is for
the mind, the heart, and the spirit.
Here you will engage in your
studies in an intellectually rich and challenging
academic setting. Moreover, because our beautiful
campus is located only minutes from downtown Pittsburgh,
you will be able to take advantage of the many
cultural, social, and educational resources of
the city.
I invite you to read about the
programs in the McAnulty Graduate School of Liberal
Arts, and to consider becoming part of its distinguished
tradition.
Best wishes for your graduate
studies and future.
Sincerely yours,
Albert C. Labriola ,
Ph.D.
