Mission Faculty & Staff

World Literature is a flexible, interdisciplinary major and minor program sponsored by the Departments of Classics, English, and Modern Languages and Literatures. It allows students to study literary works from many countries and time periods in different departments in their original language or in English translation.

The program allows students to explore and integrate literary studies with disciplines like psychology, sociology, philosophy, theology, and literary theory. Flexible requirements make it possible for World Literature to serve as a part of a double major, usefully supplementing many other major programs, especially those with an international emphasis.

While the program's focus is the Western world, (European, North American, and Latin American), there are opportunities to explore other traditions, such as Asian, African and Native American literatures.
